Nashville....revisited

posted February 22, 2007

Just got back from another 2 great days in Nashville. I love that town.

I went up to see Moraine Music's own Keni Thomas and Corbread. Keni is an act that Brent & Dianna Maher signed to their publishing company, Moraine Music, and he was showcasing for several record labels. The Rutledge, where the showcase was held has a who's who of the Nashville music scene. I was introduced to all sorts of folks, most notably super producer Mark Wright who is now the head of Universal South. Mark has produced more records than I can spit off but if the names Rascal Flatts, George Jones, Gretchen Wilson, Brooks & Dunn, Clint Black, Le Ann Womack, and Gary Allan ring any bells you know what I'm talking about.

Keni's band rocked the Rutledge and everyone in attendance had a great time. Keni's definitely got "the right stuff," he's what superstars are made of. I expect him to have a record deal very shortly. Oh, and be on the lookout for the monster song "Free" that he just wrote.

From there I met up with Doak Turner from the Nashville Muse, as well as Nicolette Fontaine, and he took me over to 12th and Porter to watch one of my favorite artists, Rachel Proctor. You can check her out at http://myspace.com/rachelproctorsongs

Rachel had a hit of her own on the radio called "Me and Emily" and she has also penned several hits such as "Where Would you Be" for Martina McBride. It was an absolute pleasure to hear her sing.

Wednesday started out with breakfast at the Nashville Staple, the Pancake Pantry with Tandy Rice, former president of the Country Music Association and founder of George Jones University and then a great afternoon with Brent & Dianna Maher at their offices as well as a great lunch at another Nashville Staple in Berry Hill, the Yellow Porch. I'm looking forward to some projects that the Maher's and I are discussing.

That's all for now, but be on the lookout for Keni Thomas very soon. The Maher's seem to have that golden touch.
